Stardust:
Re-Imagining the Costumes
The film Stardust (2007) was based on Neil Gaiman’s book with the same name. It is a young village boy’s journey as he sets out to find a fallen star for his beloved. What he doesn’t know is that the star is a beautiful woman who is wanted by many. They both set out on this adventurous journey dodging witches, princes, pirates, and eventually finding solace in each other’s company.
Moodboard for Yvaine:
Yvaine is an immortal that is clueless about life on this strange world of Stormhold. She has been around for over a hundred-thousand years as a star shining in the sky. She sleeps during the day and shines during the night. Her hobbies include sneakily viewing the lives of any living been on Stormhold.
Until, one day when she falls on Earth and her life is in grave danger. Yvaine is a delicate and shy woman. A woman, who does not belong in this world of Stormhold, Yvaine feels like an outcast and is afraid of everyone around.
Moodboard for Tristan:
Tristan is a twenty-three-year old boy, son to Dunstan and Una. He is an ordinary working boy living in the suburbs. He works in a grocery shop and his only motivation for working there is a beautiful customer – Victoria.Tristan is an extremely awkward young man.
Throughout his time in the village at the wall, he has been shown as a misfit and an outcast. He seems to feel more at home and at ease when he is in Stormhold.
Illustrations:
Some of the looks for the principle cast were re-imagined and illustrated.
Construction
and Fitting:
The bodice was draped on a size-4 form and then cut onto the final fabric. The fabric was flat lined. The skirt was also draped on a size-4 form as it was the closest size to the model. After fitting the model, the design was altered slightly to fit in the aesthetic of the time period.
