Images
The dance performance, Images, is based on the concept of time presented by SCAD’s School of Entertainment Arts in November 2017. The show follows transitions through time, and how it changes. Each piece is an Image, unique in itself. The performance consisted of 12 Images. Every Image had a group of 2-4 designers working on it in a collaboratively.

Designs for 3 outfits in the Dance Show
Dyeing and construction for the Segment: Slow Motion
This piece focused on a very slow movement as a group with a rippling effect, mirrored in the music as well as costumes. The costumes needed to have a slight androgynous tendency since there were 5 female dancers and 1 male dancer, and the director wanted all of them to look very similar.
The fabric was dyed in-house and then draped on a body form. A very lightweight organza and crepe was used. The outfit was designed in a way that its multiple layers swayed while the dancers moved.
Dyeing and draping for the Segment: Evolution
The director’s brief was to design a dress which could morph from a cocoon-like structure to a flowy evening gown-like outfit. The idea was to turn it from primitive to urban. A flowy empire line dress was conceptualized for this piece.
Silk jersey was ombre dyed, and then draped on a body form. The dress was designed in a way that it had many layers which the dancer used to wrap around herself giving an illusion of her coming to life.
Pleating and construction for the segment: Fan Dance
This piece required the elements of large hand fans, the movement of accordion pleats. The director’s concept was to create something really contrasting with the lights and the music, having a very high fashion and sleek look. The costume was designed to incorporate accordion pleats in the form of skirts that the dancers could use to form different “Images”.
Silk organza was pleated and ironed to maintain the stiffness. It was then draped and sewn onto a bodysuit. The outfit was designed in a way that the dancers could incorportate the skirt as a part of their performance.
