After graduation, I started working in a buying house in Delhi where I learnt a lot more about how the industry functions. My knowledge of fabrics, production process/timelines, designing for international clients, fashion trends and flat sketching improved drastically during those 2 years in the industry.Soon, I wanted to learn more and decided to pursue Master of Fine Arts in Production Design&nbsp;(Costume Design) from Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA, USA. I graduated in 2018 and started working in FIlm/TV in New York. I worked in the Costume Department of various TV shows like Madam Secretary, God Friended Me, The Survivor, etc. I have designed for various shows for theatres like Hip to Hip theatre and Black Spectrum Theatre. Currently an IATSE Local 764 applicant, I am looking to explore more opportunities in the entertainment industry. The costume was based on the extravagant lifestyle of Marie Antoinette. The short film depicts his journey in the past, present and future; as he tries to get over his “writer’s block” and explores various scenarios to write a perfect story. The costumes needed to have a slight androgynous tendency since there were 5 female dancers and 1 male dancer, and the director wanted all of them to look very similar. The fabric was dyed in-house and then draped on a body form. A very lightweight organza and crepe was used. The idea was to turn it from primitive to urban. A flowy empire line dress was conceptualized for this piece. Silk jersey was ombre dyed, and then draped on a body form. The director’s concept was to create something really contrasting with the lights and the music, having a very high fashion and sleek look. The costume was designed to incorporate accordion pleats in the form of skirts that the dancers could use to form different “Images”. Silk organza was pleated and ironed to maintain the stiffness. It was then draped and sewn onto a bodysuit. The fabric was flat lined. The skirt was also draped on a size-4 form as it was the closest size to the model. This play was re-imagined as a medieval fantasy play. While some elements were taken from history, a majority of the influence came from more contemporary and fantasy world. This pattern was then traced and cut onto the leather. Then, the leather was dyed. It was given a very rough finish to look like it belonged to the medieval times. Afterwards, it was assembled with the use of rivets and was laced. To get rid of the brightness of the rivets, they were aged and blackened.
